- Both. The CID data stream is transmitted inbetween the 1st and 2nd RINGs of
- the telephone.

- It is transmitted via Bell 202 modulation standard (not a standard modem
- modulation format).

- In order to obtain the CID data, you need a Bell 202 type modulation device
- that >does not< cause the phone line to go off-hook (terminology for the user
- picking up the phone receiver to answer a phone call).

- into "human readable" form.
